Trailers

First Draft:
This is my first draft of my film trailer, I have identified several things which I need to change in the trailer because of the feedback i have received from other pupils and teachers.
I need to reduce the time of the trailer because the trailer has to be 120 seconds long but this trailer is over 2 minutes so I will make sure that the next draft for the trailer is under 2 minutes long. Some of the feedback I got was that the trailer didn't make any sense as it didn't explain the plot, so i will have to adjust the shots, sound and camera edits used so their is a story within the trailer.
The film institution at the start of the trailer also needs to be reduced because it is over 15 seconds which I feel is unnecessary to have, and the full institution is usually shown at the start of a film, not a trailer so I will reduce the time to about 2-3 seconds long. Their is also a grammar error when a graphic caption is 42 seconds in, it says "Afterwards these footages were found..." it should say "Afterwards the footage was found.." I will make sure I correct this error in my second draft.

Second Draft:
Here is my second draft of my film trailer, I have critically evaluated the good and the bad aspects of this trailer so in my next and final draft I will have all the corrections done.

Firstly, their is a spelling error at when a graphic caption appears it says "3 studen went on a field trip", it should say "2 students went to film a documentary on the myth known as the masked man", this is because we decided that we only have two students going to film and the other student should play the masked man.

Their is another grammar mistake on the second graphic caption, because it says "Several day later they were reported missing", it should say "Several days later they were reported missing".

I also need to improve the diegetic sound coming from the actors because people will struggle to try and listen to what the character are saying. For example, when Kevin says "Why are we here",my response is very quiet and if the audience can't hear me in the trailer then they won;t understand the story. To resolve this issue I will record the voices and edit them in the trailer and use them as a narration instead to explain the story.

Third Draft:

Here is my 3rd draft of my film trailer, I have evaluated this draft so I know what errors my group have made so we can fix the errors when we do are next draft.

I have made a grammer mistake when it say's "Several day later they were reported missing", I will fix this error by writing "Several days later they were reported missing". Also we may have to change the soundtrack from the 28 days later to the SAW soundtrack because we were told from are feedback that the soundtrack didn't fit into the trailer we decided to use the SAW soundtrack as this is a horror film.

I also have to change the film institution at the start of the trailer because the Lionsgate has been used but the billing block in the trailer say's  distributed by Warner Bros so I will insert the Warner Bros institution with the Lionsgate institution.

Fouth & Final Draft:
Here is my final draft of my film trailer, my group have made a lot of changes as when we received feedback off my teachers we realised that we made a lot of mistakes.

We felt we had to change the non-diegetic sound as we felt it didn't fit into to the trailer so we decided to change it to the SAW soundtrack which is a horror franchise. We also decided to add sound effects as we felt it would build suspense.

We corrected the grammar and spelling mistakes and we fixed the camera shot of when the camera drops because on the last draft when the camera drops the same shot is repeated which makes it look like the camera is levitating.

Overall I feel that my group have filmed a really good trailer as we have used a variety of different shots, edits and sounds.
We changed the music because edit did not fit with the trailer, we added sound effects to add suspense, we had feedback from people on youtube and Facebook and edited it towards it, this is our final product

Evaluation

Here Is My Media A2 Evaluation

Movie Poster 2nd Draft

I have added a 15 certificate rating to make the poster look more professional

Finished Trailer

Here is my finished trailer

Codes and Conventions of a Film Poster

The poster on the right is of the horror movie "Quarantine". The main image is placed in the centre of the canvas. By keeping it in the centre the director has made the main focal point of the poster the centre. Furthermore, the image itself has been given an effect that makes it look like it has been captured on a video camera on night shot. This makes the whole document look a lot simplistic as it doesn't use sophisticating editing and makes it look more realistic and with the girl looking  terrified creates the horror aspect of the poster. Apart from the  primary image, the tagline / synopsis written across the top of the poster adds to the creepy aspect and gives the audience shivers down their spine. The name of the movie is written in a clear / standard way across the bottom of the primary image. The style that the name has been written in is much more emphasising than the rest of the text as it is in a larger font size than the rest in bubble writing, with a slight glow. At the very bottom of the poster is the billing block. Within the billing block there is reference to when the movie is going to be available in cinemas, some main character names, production institution names etc.

Just like the "Quarantine" poster, the "Paranormal Activity" poster is set out in a similar fashion. However, instead of a tagline / synopsis, this poster displays a review from a viewer who has went to see the movie. Below this is the primary image, but unlike most other posters, this poster just uses an image that is taken normally and not posed for or anything, this makes the poster in general look really simple. However, the poster above displays the image being taken from a camera as it shows the record button and the rewind button, this poster too shows that this image was taken from a camera as it shows the time at the bottom of the screen. Furthermore, this poster unlike the poster before, also uses a tag line combined with the film name. This in my opinion as an audience creates a much more creepier feel to the poster. Unlike most other posters of any genre, this poster doesn't include a billing block.

Research & Planning

Here is my research evaluation

How did your research into genre contribute to your production work?
My research into genre contributed really well because I analysed trailers in my research which were in the Horror/Thriller/Mystery genre which helped me understand more how the conventions are used in the trailers, and how I Horror poster is presented, as I researched into the inception Poster and how they use the conventions, as my projects are in the Horror genre.
How did your research into audience contribute to your production work?
My research into audience contributed really well into my production as I used a questionnaire which I posted on Facebook to see what was peoples favourite film genre, what is their best feature on a film poster etc. This therefore helped as when I was creating my poster I knew which was the main feature to concentrate on.

What pre-production planning techniques did you employ (scripting, storyboarding, shot-listing, flat planning etc)?
The pre-production planning techniques that I employed was a storyboard for my film trailer, flat plans for my film poster and film magazine cover, shot listing for my film trailer.

How effective was your planning how did it help you in the production phase?
My planning was very effective because I used plans for my poster and film magazine cover, and I used a storyboard for my film trailer, Shortlisting for my film trailer and scripting for my trailer. This therefore helped me as it made my production stages quicker and easier.

What did you learn from planning your first production that helped you to improve your planning for the second?
I learnt that I had to design a  plan before I actually started the first production and that I received as much feedback as possible before I started my production work.

How did your research into institutions, responsible for the production and regulation of the media, influence your production?
My research into institutions influenced my production as I researched into Lionsgate and Warner Bros as these institutions were on my billing block.

How did you use audience feedback to influence your production work while it was in progress?
I used audience feedback for all my production work while they were in progress, I used Facebook,YouTube and a Questionnaire to receive feedback. I therefore got feedback off my teachers, students and Internet users

Even though I have done my research evaluation I still feel I need to describe more how I developed research and planning skills for media production and evaluate how these skills contributed to creative decision making
